  • Hike Hawk Mountain for an amazing view. Very popular during the fall migration season.

    In the summer, rent a kayak or rowboat by the hour at Locust Lake State Park or Tuscarora State Park, or bring your own. Fishing is permitted.

    Take a whitewater rafting or tubing trip down the Lehigh River ((click here for a full list of local companies)).

    Hike Glen Onoko falls in Lehigh Gorge State Park - make sure to follow trail guides. Part of this trail has been closed since 2019. Follow this AllTrails route. 

    Do a bike ride on the rails to trails from Jim Thorpe to White Haven! A 24.5 mile stretch. You can get all things bike related right in town at DnA Bikes in Tamaqua, rent a bike in Jim Thorpe, or bring your own!

    Get in a golf game or two at White Birch Golf Course or Mountain Valley Golf Course.

    Play a game of mini-golf and enjoy locally made ice cream at Heisler’s Cloverleaf Dairy (Open seasonally April – September).

    The local outdoor pool, affectionately called “The Bungalow” is a great place to take the kids (it even has a waterslide and a diving board!). Just a short walk from the Inn. Open seasonally during June/July/Mid August only.

    Enjoy the sunflowers at Second Mountain Sunflowers. Take a ride through the fields! Or pick your own and take home as many as you can carry. Very scenic, great photo opportunity! Open 7 days a week during the month of August, weather dependent. Check their Facebook page to confirm hours before visiting.

  • Explore Tink’s Antiques and Tap-S-Trees right in town. Tons of unique items!

    Every Wednesday, year round, check out Hometown Farmer’s Market. You’ll find classic antiques, DVD, record and second hand book stores, thrifted clothing, shoes, kitchen items, tools, vintage items and more.

    Venture out a little further to Studio 895 or Vintage 61 Storehouse for more antiques and repurposed goods.

    For a full day adventure, check out The Slatington Marketplace. An endless array of vendors. Also has a market hall with tons of food and beverage items (everything from ramen to coffee!) and a small farmer’s market.

  • Enjoy a craft beer at Stoker’s Brewing Company or Revere Brewery right in Tamaqua. Stoker’s has year round outdoor seating and is also dog friendly! Food trucks are available most weekends.

    Take a ride to Pottsville and visit America’s oldest brewery, Yuengling, then take a walk around town and check out the local cafes and restaurants.

    For the most scenic experience, visit Eight Oaks Farm Distillery, Galen Glen Winery and Cellar Beast Winehouse, all within just a few minutes drive of each other. All three serve top notch spirits, ciders and wines in the rolling countryside hills. Most have a local cheese plate available or food trucks on site. Eight Oaks serves a fantastic brunch on Sundays and a full menu on the weekends.

  • Visit our local Tamaqua Historical Society right in town. Located in a former bank, the interior is stunning and newly remodeled. You could spend an hour looking at all the collections featuring the history, businesses and people of the area. Highly recommended. Usually open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

    Looking to indulge your creative side? Take a class or see a show at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center! The Arts Center has everything from clay, yoga, seasonal crafts and painting classes on a weekly basis. There’s also a performing arts venue showcasing local music, plays and musicals. Check their schedule to view upcoming events and classes.

    Enjoy the No. 9 Mine Museum. Visitors to the Mine ride by rail 1,600 feet into the mountain before embarking on a 600 foot guided walking tour. Tourists can examine the original 700 foot deep mine shaft, walk the “mule-way” (where young men guided the mules between the different levels of the mine), and see a miner’s hospital cut into solid rock. The No. 9 Mine Museum is open seasonally from April 1 – Early December each year.

    Visit the Asa Packer Mansion or the Old Jail Museum in Jim Thorpe. Experiences you won’t soon forget!

    Tour Yuengling, America’s oldest brewery or Fighter’s Heaven, Muhammad Ali’s famous training camp.

    See a drive in movie at the Mahoning Drive-in Theater! This local landmark has been made legendary through multiple appearances in indie documentary films. A truly enjoyable night out.

  • Late Spring, Summer and Early Fall

    Friday evening check-in: Dinner at The Train Station Restaurant, La Dolce Casa or Wheel, all in Tamaqua.

    SATURDAY:

    Grab a snack and morning beverage from the lounge or go to Hope & Coffee, Pressed Coffee and Books or Bake Shop VI (Saturday morning breakfast is highly recommended here).

    If the weather is nice, bring your swimsuit to Tuscarora State Park or Locust Lake State Park, both have hiking as well.     For those who are more adventurous, book a whitewater rafting trip with Jim Thorpe River Adventures or Pocono Whitewater. Luna Rafting has tubing trips which are a little more relaxed yet still give the full river experience.

    Once you’re cleaned up and ready for more, head to Stoker’s Brewing Company and bring a pizza from Luigi’s or La Dolce Casa to enjoy. Stoker’s sometimes has food trucks as well.

    Do some in-town antiques shopping at Tink’s Antiques. Studio 895 also has a great selection.

    If you haven’t yet seen Jim Thorpe, walk the main drag of Broadway and soak in the sights or book a train ride with the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. Or take the train from Tamaqua to Jim Thorpe via the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad (select weekends only, check schedule in advance).

    A tour at the Asa Packer Mansion is highly recommended. Tours of Yeungling Brewery in Pottsville are also fun and widely available.

    The No. 9 Mine tour in Lansford provides the full coal region experience.

    Galen Glen Winery is a beautiful spot to spend an afternoon with some snacks and a bottle of their fantastic wine.

    In the evening, check out The Mahoning Drive-In Theater, a funky local hangout with obscure horror flicks and more recognizable classics.

  • Late Fall, Winter and Early Spring

    Book a train ride with the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway in Jim Thorpe or take the train from Tamaqua to Jim Thorpe via the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad (select weekends only, check schedule in advance). Take in the sights of Jim Thorpe and patronize the local shops & restaurants.

    In the evening, head to Stoker’s Brewing Company and grab takeout from a local restaurant to enjoy. Stoker’s sometimes has food trucks as well.

    SUNDAY:

    The Train Station Restaurant has a lovely Sunday brunch.

    Head to Eight Oaks Farm Distillery for an afternoon snack and cocktail. The facility and grounds are quite scenic and beautiful.

    Do some in-town antiques shopping at Tink’s Antiques. Studio 895 also has a great selection. If you’re near Jim Thorpe, check out The Slatington Marketplace for a gigantic warehouse full of antiques with a new food hall addition.

    If you prefer a day outside, check out Locust Lake State Park or Tuscarora State Park for a nice hike. Birders may enjoy the beauty of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, a must see for nature enthusiasts. It’s especially recommended during bird migration season when birds travel the Appalachian Trail as their “superhighway”.

    Tours of Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville are also fun and widely available.

    In the evening, check out one of our local Tamaqua dining establishments!
