Really relaxing sanctuary with a lovely lake. Free entry. Its small swimming beach gets the most sun during morning hours. Gets a bit crowded during the day and can be a bit noisy sometimes - go early if possible. Boat and kayak rentals are available in the summer. Fishing is also permitted. There are hiking trails as well. Use the AllTrails App for recommendations.

Hit the fairways! The White Birch Golf Course was established in 1963. Once a dairy farm, John and Ben Godshall turned the 120 acres into a 27 Hole golf course. Open to the public. Their great little restaurant serves an excellent greasy spoon breakfast on the weekends.

Heisler’s Dairy Bar, Mini-Golf and Driving Range
Wonderful scenic place to get homemade ice cream, hot dogs, fries, and burgers. The landscape is so beautiful and the ice cream is very good. They also have two large coal-themed mini-golf courses and a driving range. A great way to spend some time outside.

For many visitors, Second Mountain Sunflowers in Tamaqua is their “happy place.” You just can’t help but smile when you’re surrounded by thousands upon thousands of cheerful sunflowers.
Wander through the pathways and cut your own bouquet (just remember to bring your own scissors). At Second Mountain Sunflowers, the saying goes, “We don’t count stems, we count SMILES.” Your admission includes as many flowers as you can carry to your vehicle.
Make sure to bring your camera too. The photo ops are endless when the flowers are in full bloom.

Great for hiking and swimming during the warmer months. Has a boat rental shop and small camp store open seasonally. Highly recommended by the locals, as it’s less busy than Tuscarora. Please note that visitors must park just outside of the main entrance and then walk into the park. The beach is about a 10-15 minute walk from the entrance so be prepared. Or, if you’re going just for sunbathing, you can set up on the grassy area near the entrance. Use the AllTrails App for hiking recommendations.

The Mahoning Drive-In Theater was built in 1948, and opened for its first season the following year. Since then, it has entertained moviegoers for over half a century on the largest CinemaScope screen in Pennsylvania! They offer an exclusively retro 35mm film program, which is presented reel-to-reel via original 1940's Simplex projectors. Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is a well known and well respected regional attraction. It’s most popular during the fall when the trees are golden and hawks make their migratory trips over the Appalachian Mountain Range (their freeway, if you like). If you look carefully, you can see quite a few! Trails are challenging so if you’re up for a hike, this is the place, but you can choose your skill level and length as you wish. A beautiful place to visit, well worth the trip.

Check out this 24.4-mile point-to-point trail near Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 7 h 21 min to complete. This is a popular trail for cross-country skiing, hiking, and mountain biking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. You can get all things bike related right in town at DnA Bikes in Tamaqua, rent a bike in Jim Thorpe, or bring your own!
