D&L Rail-to-Trail White Haven to Jim Thorpe
Bikes on the D&L Trail
The White Haven–to–Jim Thorpe stretch of the Delaware & Lehigh Trail is one of the area’s most rewarding bike outings: a roughly 25-mile ride through Lehigh Gorge State Park, following the Lehigh River along a mostly gentle downhill former railroad grade. The route is well suited to cyclists of many experience levels and offers forested scenery, river views, historic remnants, and plenty of opportunities to pause for photos or a picnic. Plan for approximately three to four hours of riding at a relaxed pace, plus time for breaks.
For an especially easy one-way adventure, take the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway Bike Train from Jim Thorpe to White Haven, then ride downhill back to town at your own pace. Bring your own bike or reserve a rental through Pocono Biking in Jim Thorpe or Dn’A Bikes in Tamaqua. Bike Train trips run on select dates from May through November, require advance reservations by phone, and cost $39 with your own bicycle or $66 with a rental bike, based on the 2026 schedule. Board in Jim Thorpe at 8:45 a.m. or noon for a train departure at approximately 9:15 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.; confirm the current schedule, availability, and requirements before planning your trip by calling Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway at 570-325-8485 or Pocono Biking at 570-325-3656.
