The Asa Packer Mansion Museum is a standout Jim Thorpe landmark and one of the best ways to understand the town’s Victorian-era wealth and railroad history. Built for railroad magnate, coal entrepreneur, and Lehigh University founder Asa Packer, the grand hilltop residence is remarkably preserved and retains original furnishings, offering a rare look at 19th-century life at the height of the region’s coal and railroad boom.

The mansion is viewed by guided tour only, with tours generally lasting 45 to 60 minutes (30 minutes during Fall Foliage weekends). It is open on select weekends in spring and late fall, six days a week from Memorial Day through October 31, and on limited early-December weekends, weather permitting; hours and availability change seasonally. Arrive early on busy weekends, especially during fall foliage season, as tours can fill quickly.
