Train ride to Jim Thorpe from Tamaqua
Stay at Bischoff Inn & make the journey part of the experience by boarding the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad train at Tamaqua Station for a scenic ride to Jim Thorpe. The route travels through rolling farmland, mountain scenery, small towns, tunnels, and bridges—including the memorable Hometown High Bridge—before arriving in one of Pennsylvania’s most picturesque historic towns. It is an especially relaxing alternative to driving, since you can avoid Jim Thorpe’s often-busy traffic and hectic parking situation. Guests can walk 10 minutes to the train station or drive & park in downtown Tamaqua.
Season: Runs seasonally on many weekends from February through December, including popular fall-foliage weekends.
Availability: Tickets can sell out well in advance, so book early.
To Jim Thorpe: Depart Tamaqua at 10:10 a.m. → Arrive around 11:00 a.m.
To Tamaqua: Board in Jim Thorpe at 4:15 p.m. → Arrive around 4:57 p.m.
Round-trip fare: $24 per person.
Ticket purchases: Tickets are sold online only. There is no ticket booth at Tamaqua Station. Passengers can also pay in cash to the conductor upon the train’s arrival.
When to arrive: Arrive at least 30 minutes early to allow time for parking and boarding.
Additional excursion: Ask at the Jim Thorpe ticket booth about discounted tickets for the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway.
