A single resident's flat residency fee is $375 per week for our standard queen rooms. Artists may pay additionally for the following:
$100 additional per week for our largest room, the Bischoff Jr. Suite. Recommended for families and those who would like extra space. Sleeps four people. Total residency fee is $475 per week for the Jr Suite ($375 + $100) for a single artist.
$100 additional per week for a private room, bathroom and kitchen access at Grier City Schoolhouse. This is a separate property located 15 minutes away from the Inn, owned by Maria Stabio, residency founder. Please visit this link to the Airbnb listing for more information. It’s recommended for families (sleeps four with one queen bed and two twin beds) and those who would like extra space to work. Kitchen access (full stove, fridge and cooking equipment) is also included. Total residency fee is $475 per week for the Grier City Schoolhouse ($375 + $100) for a single artist.
$50 additional per week, per partner, child or co-resident. The $375 residency fee only covers one artist in attendance at our program. Please let us know if you will be bringing someone with you to share your space. Our queen rooms sleep two people and the Jr Suite/Grier City Schoolhouse sleep four people. Total residency fee is $425 ($375 + $50) per week for an artist and their partner, child or co-resident in one of our queen rooms. The fee applies even if the partner, child or co-resident is only joining for one night.
Artists who decide to stay less than a week are still charged the full weekly fee. No discounts are given for stays less than one week.
Please keep in mind that we must charge taxes & a credit card processing fee for all residency fees.
-
The actual cost of a 7 day residency is $400. This cost reflects all our expenses (insurance, our innkeeper’s wage, loan payment and utilities). There is no profit built into our residency fee. We decided to offer residencies around or below cost because we know how expensive residencies can be and want to be accommodating to people regardless of financial status. Additionally, we are not a non-profit and do not have donors contributing to the overall cost.
-
As soon as you’re accepted and a residency agreement has been signed, tell us the exact dates you’d like to attend and what room you’d like to stay in. You can also stay at residency founder Maria Stabio’s home, The Schoolhouse.
-
We cannot cover travel expenses unfortunately.
-
Yes! The more the merrier. Keep in mind our standard rooms hold a maximum of 2 people and the Junior Suite holds a maximum of 4. Groups larger than two people will need to request additional rooms (at an additional cost) to occupy all their members. We recommend the Junior Suite or The Schoolhouse for families or groups up to 4 people.
-
Our summer residency is perfect for artists of all kinds and anyone who needs a large workspace to make their work.
-
Do you offer scholarships? Scholarships are donor dependent. Unfortunately, we are not offering scholarships at this time. If scholarships become available, we will announce them on our Instagram @bischoffinn. If you are interested in donating to our scholarship fund, please contact us at innkeeper@bischoffinn.com. Donations are tax deductible through our fiscal sponsorship with Stonehedge Gardens in Tamaqua.

Studio & Facilities
-
We provide linens, towels, coffee & tea, snacks, wi-fi, climate control (in the room, not in the workspace) and space to sleep/work. Artists must bring all other desired supplies.
-
The summer session workspaces are located within a separate building on the property called the Lumber Shed. This building has five semi-private spaces, all divided by walls but no doors. There is a bathroom and slop sink in the building. Folding tables (one 6 ft, one 4 ft) and chairs are provided in each workspace. The workspaces are not climate controlled, so please keep this in mind. We provide box fans and window screens. To access the workspaces, artists must walk around the block and climb one or two sets of stairs to reach their assigned space. Each workspace is approximately 550-680 sq ft. The walls are made of bare unfinished wood and the floors are also wood. This space is raw and unfinished and is prone to the occasional bug!
-
At this time, we only provide workspace (no wood shop, tools, etc). There are kilns at the Tamaqua Art Center and Stonehedge Gardens in town and a well appointed clay studio at the Walk In Art Center in Schuylkill Haven. Artists working with clay may be able to arrange a firing or throwing time with them independently.
-
We do have a kitchenette with a sink, fridge, toaster, coffee maker and microwave. See our lounge page for more info.
Unfortunately, Bischoff Inn does not have a full kitchen. Please keep this in mind before applying. If you have special dietary concerns, please consider staying at The Schoolhouse which has a full kitchen with a stove, oven, fridge microwave, pots and pans and cooking utensils.
-
Yes, there are two washing machines and two dryers.
-
We do not have any accessible rooms or workspace at this time. This is a situation we are actively working on. We hope to have accessible rooms within the next 10 years.
