Mahoning Drive-In Theater

The Mahoning Drive-In at sunset

The Mahoning Drive-In Theater is one of the region’s most distinctive cultural attractions. Built in 1948 and opened the following year, it screens films on Pennsylvania’s largest CinemaScope screen using original 1940s Simplex projectors and an all-35mm, retro-focused program. It attracts cinephiles from all over the country and was famously featured in two documentaries, At the Drive-In and HBO’s Under the Stars.

The experience is as much about the setting as the movie: expect a lively, film-loving crowd, a retro concession stand, a small gift shop, and themed programming that ranges from cult classics to horror and genre films. It operates seasonally, and individual events often sell out, so guests should check the schedule and purchase tickets ahead of time.
