Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway employee loads bikes onto train
The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway Bike Train combines a scenic rail journey with a self-guided bicycle ride through Lehigh Gorge State Park. Departing from historic downtown Jim Thorpe, the train carries you and your bike approximately 25 miles to White Haven, following the winding Lehigh River through a landscape of wooded slopes and rocky cliffs. Once you arrive, collect your bike and begin the ride back to Jim Thorpe along the Lehigh Gorge section of the D&L Trail.
The return route follows a gentle downhill grade on a packed-gravel trail, with opportunities to pause for photographs, enjoy a picnic, and explore remnants of the historic Lehigh Canal. Most riders take three to four hours to complete the cycling portion, so plan for a substantial outdoor outing rather than a short pedal around town. Bring your own bicycle or reserve a rental through the railway’s partnership with Pocono Biking. Bike Trains operate on select dates, and advance reservations are strongly recommended.
